It has been six months since my hospital went live with Soarian Clinicals, some forms have changed, and a few additions have been made. I work as an Independent Consultant with an urban academic hospital in Washington, DC. This hospital went live with Siemens Soarian January 2013.
There are now new employees both nurses and other disciplines, but who will train them? Nursing department says “not us” while the IT department says, “why not?” We took it to the Clinical Advisory Committee, where the nursing leaders were supposed to come together to make decisions relating to the hospital’s information technology tools. The leaders echoed the foot soldiers, “Not us.” However, there is no IT education department.
Training seems to be an issue at the client site; even the physicians are often partially trained. The CIO is urging the Interim CNO to employ more Informatics specialists, while the CNO says that it is not her priority.
There should be specific functional team-members and department resources, available to support post Go-Live training. The policy should specify the training process, and methodology of the “Who’s” “Where’s and the “How’s”
How did your hospital handle the post Go-Live training?
